Disconnecting appliances before we collect
Appliances need to be disconnected before the team arrives. For a washing machine or dishwasher that means turning off the water at the isolating valve, unscrewing the fill hose and pulling the waste pipe out of the standpipe or sink trap. Keep a bowl and a towel handy, because there is nearly always some water left in the hoses and the pump. Tape the hoses and flex to the back.
Gas cookers and hobs must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A hard-wired electric cooker or oven should be isolated and disconnected by someone competent to do it, normally an electrician. Plug-in appliances only need unplugging. If you cannot tell how something is connected, send us a photo of the back or the connection point and ask before you book. It saves a wasted visit.
