Event waste clearance for organisers and venues

Event waste clearance is the removal of litter and bagged rubbish once an event has finished. We do it for organisers and venues after fetes, markets, fairs, festivals, sports days and indoor functions. The team collects the bags from wherever they have been stacked, picks up what is left on the ground, loads the van and takes it all to licensed facilities for sorting. Wherever possible, that happens the same day or the day after.

Most event waste is light but bulky. Food trays, cups, bottles, cans, wrappers and a great deal of trader packaging. Flattened boxes from stallholders can go as a cardboard collection, and crates, film and drinks bottles as plastic waste clearance. If the venue's own bins are overflowing by the end of the day, we can empty those on the same visit, so the regular bin round is not left to deal with the backlog.

Timing is usually the hard part. A hired field or hall has to be handed back, and bags left out overnight get torn open. Tell us when the event ends and when the site must be clear, and we will say whether we can meet it. Where waste needs to go as the stalls come down, wait and load has the van parked up while your volunteers or our team fill it.

If you are arranging the collection, the duty of care is yours. The waste must go to a licensed carrier, and you should keep the waste transfer note. We hold upper tier licence CBDU526130 and provide a transfer note and an invoice for every job. Our guide to commercial waste duty of care explains the paperwork, and what happens to rubbish after collection follows the load from the van onwards.

How our event waste clearance works

  1. Tell us the plan

Before the event, send the date, the venue, the finish time and a rough idea of its size. We quote from that.

  2. Price confirmed

When the event closes, send a photo of the bags. The price is confirmed before the team loads anything.

  3. Site cleared

We load the bags, pick up loose litter, flatten the cardboard and empty any bins you have asked us to.

  4. Paperwork sent

You receive an invoice and a waste transfer note, which the venue or landowner may ask to see.

Why organisers choose us for event waste clearance

Collected where it stands

Bags are collected from the field, marquee, hall or car park where they stand. You do not have to drag them to a gate.

Pay for what you fill

Turnout is hard to predict, and so is the rubbish. You pay for the van space the waste fills, not for a size you guessed in advance.

Most of it is recycled

Loads go to licensed facilities for sorting, and around 90% of what we collect is recycled.

Licensed and insured

Upper tier waste carrier licence CBDU526130, and public liability cover up to £5 million while the team is on your site.

Planning waste for a fete, market or festival

A little planning cuts the size of the clear-up. Put out more bins and bag points than you think you need, and place them where people queue and eat. Ask traders to flatten their boxes and take their own waste home, or agree a spot where they leave it. Change bags before they overflow and stack the full ones at one or two points with vehicle access, so loading is quick at the end.

Tell us about the ground and the gates. A wet field may mean the van stays on hard standing and the bags are carried to it, which affects the time and the price. Venues often have rules on vehicle movements while the public are present, so tell us your site rules and the times that suit and we will fit the collection around them wherever possible. If unrelated waste has been dumped on the site, we can remove it as a fly-tipping clearance.

Event waste clearance FAQs

Can you collect straight after the event finishes?

Often, yes. Collection is same-day or next-day wherever possible, though we cannot promise a slot until we know the details. Give us the finish time and the handover deadline when you ask for the quote, ideally before the event, and we will tell you honestly whether we can be there when you need us.

Do you pick up loose litter or only bagged waste?

Both. Bagged waste is quicker to load, so the more your stewards bag up, the smaller the job. The team will also pick up loose litter from the ground. Tell us the size of the area and send a photo after the event so we can allow for it.

Can you empty the venue's wheelie bins as well?

Yes. Full or overflowing bins can be emptied on the same visit as a private bin collection. Tell us how many bins there are and what size they are. We empty them into the van and put them back where the venue wants them.

We run a market every week. Can you come regularly?

Yes. Repeat visits can be booked as and when they are needed, each priced on the load. For a regular arrangement, our commercial waste collection page explains how one-off and regular collections for businesses work.

Who is responsible for the waste, the organiser or the venue?

That depends on your hire agreement, so check it. Many venues expect the hirer to leave the site clear. Whoever hands the waste to us has a duty of care to use a licensed carrier, and that person receives the waste transfer note and the invoice.

What about food waste, cooking oil or gas bottles left by caterers?

Bagged food waste from the event can go with the general load. Used cooking oil and gas bottles are a different matter. If any are left behind, or you find anything else unusual, send us a photo and we will tell you what can go on the van.
