TV disposal for flat screens, old sets and monitors

A television cannot go out with the bins. It is a waste electrical item and needs to be recycled separately from household rubbish. Our TV disposal service collects flat screens, old tube sets, monitors and the boxes that sit underneath them, from whichever room they are in. The team carries them out and loads them, so nothing has to be left on the pavement.

The two types are awkward in different ways. A big flat screen is light but fragile, and a cracked panel is no fun to carry through a house. An old CRT set is the opposite: small, dense and front-heavy, and often stuck in a loft or spare room. Tell us the screen size, the type and where it is. If a washing machine or cooker is going too, add it under appliance removal.

TVs are rarely the only thing going. The stand, the old hi-fi and a box of cables usually follow. A media unit or sideboard can travel on the same van through furniture removal, and a mixed load of large household items is booked as a bulky waste collection. Businesses replacing screens and monitors in bulk tend to combine it with an office clearance.

After collection, sets go to a licensed facility for sorting. Screens are handled as waste electricals, which keeps the glass, metals, plastics and circuit boards out of general waste so they can be recovered. We hold upper tier waste carrier licence CBDU526130 and provide a waste transfer note. To follow the whole journey, read our guide on what happens to rubbish after collection.

How our TV disposal service works

  1. Photograph the set

Send a photo on WhatsApp with the screen size and say whether it is on a stand, on a wall or in the loft.

  2. Receive a quote

We send a free, no-obligation price. It is confirmed when the team arrives, before anything is loaded.

  3. Unplug and sign out

Unplug the set and disconnect the aerial and any boxes. Sign out of your accounts on a smart TV if it still works.

  4. We take it away

The team carries the TV and anything else that is going out to the van and loads it so the screen stays in one piece.

Why choose us for TV disposal

Collected from inside

The set never has to sit outside in the rain waiting to be picked up. We carry it straight from the room to the van.

Handled as WEEE

Televisions go to licensed facilities and are sorted as waste electricals. They are not tipped in with general rubbish.

A licence you can check

Our upper tier waste carrier licence is CBDU526130. You can look it up on the Environment Agency public register.

One set or many

A single old television or a stack of office monitors is priced the same way, by the room it takes in the van.

After: the same corner clear After

Wall brackets, old CRT sets and smart TV data

A wall-mounted TV normally lifts off its bracket once the locking screws are undone. Tell us if yours is still on the wall, how high it is and whether the bracket is going too, so the team comes ready for it. Old CRT sets need different care. The weight is all at the front, and the glass tube should not be dropped or broken, so they are carried level by hand.

A smart TV remembers more than you might expect: streaming logins, wi-fi passwords and sometimes payment details for app stores. If the set still switches on, run a factory reset from the settings menu before collection and sign out of your accounts. Take out any memory cards or USB sticks, and check the back for a streaming stick. Remotes, cables and aerials can go in a bag with the set.

TV disposal FAQs

Can I put an old TV in my wheelie bin?

No. A television is a waste electrical item and should be recycled separately, not put in with household rubbish. A broken screen in a bin is also a hazard for whoever empties it. Book a collection or take the set to a site that accepts waste electricals.

Do you take broken or cracked TVs?

Yes. Working, dead or cracked sets are all collected. If the screen is smashed, tell us beforehand and leave it where it is. Loose glass is easier to deal with if the set has not been moved around the house first.

Will you collect an old CRT television from a loft?

Yes. The team collects from lofts, cellars and upstairs rooms. A CRT set is heavy for its size, so tell us roughly how big it is and what the loft access is like. A photo of the hatch and ladder helps us plan the lift.

Can you take a TV off the wall?

Tell us it is wall mounted when you ask for a quote. Most sets lift off the bracket once the locking screws are undone, and the team can deal with that on the day. Say whether you want the bracket taken down as well, as that leaves fixing holes in the wall.

Do you collect computer monitors and other screens from businesses?

Yes. Monitors, meeting room screens and projectors are collected from offices and shops. Businesses have a duty of care to pass waste only to a licensed carrier and must keep the waste transfer note, which we provide along with the invoice.

Is it worth booking a collection for one TV?

Guide prices start at £155 for the smallest load, which has room for much more than a single set. Most people use the visit to clear other things at the same time, such as an old fridge through fridge freezer removal or the contents of a room as part of a house clearance.
