A wait and load service that leaves with the waste

With wait and load, the van does the job of a skip without staying behind. We arrive at your property, the team loads the waste while you or your trades are on site, and everything leaves on the same visit. It suits streets with no room for a skip and jobs where the waste needs to go in one go.

Builders, kitchen fitters and landscapers use it to keep a site clear. Rip-out waste can be stacked ready, or brought out while the work goes on, and loaded straight onto the van. Think of it as builders waste clearance timed around your working day. Bricks, concrete and soil can go too, although heavy loads are planned differently, as our hardcore waste removal page explains.

Householders book wait and load for much the same reason. If you are clearing a garage, emptying a relative's home or replacing furniture, you can sort as we load and decide on the spot what goes. Large items such as beds and wardrobes can join the load. Being present also means you see exactly what is taken and what the load comes to.

The service is a version of our man and van rubbish clearance, and it is priced the same way, by the space your waste fills. If you are deciding between this and a container on the drive, read our skip hire and man and van comparison. For a fuller picture of pricing, see the guide to what rubbish removal costs.

How a wait and load collection runs

  1. Tell us about the job

Describe the waste and when it will be ready. Photos on WhatsApp help us judge the load and the access.

  2. Agree a slot

We arrange a visit to suit your job, with same-day or next-day collection wherever possible.

  3. Van arrives, team loads

The van parks as close as it can and the waste is loaded while you or your trades are there to direct us.

  4. Waste leaves with us

We sweep the area and nothing is left outside. You get a waste transfer note and invoice as required.

Why choose wait and load over a skip

No skip permit to arrange

A skip placed on a public road usually needs a permit from the council. A van that loads and leaves avoids that step.

Your drive stays free

Nothing is dropped on the driveway or lawn, so your car is not blocked in while the job is going on.

Only your waste goes on

A skip left overnight tends to collect other people's rubbish. With wait and load, the space you pay for is used by you.

We do the loading

Your trades carry on working, or you carry on sorting, while our team moves the waste to the van.

After: the kerb clear and the truck loaded After

Getting the most from a wait and load visit

Wait and load works best when the waste is ready, or nearly ready, as the van pulls up. Agree with your trades what will be out and where it will be stacked. A pile on the drive or just inside the gate is ideal, but we also collect from inside the property. If materials are still coming out when we arrive, tell us what is left to come so we can plan the load.

Think about where the van will stand. It needs to stop close to the waste for as long as loading takes. On permit-only or busy streets, hold a space with your own car or ask a neighbour, and tell us about any restrictions when you book. If you can, keep rubble and soil in their own heap, apart from timber and packaging. Plasterboard should be kept separate from general waste, so stack it on its own.

Wait and load FAQs

What does wait and load mean?

It means the vehicle stays only while it is being loaded. Our van arrives, the team loads your waste while you or your trades are on site, and it all leaves on the same visit. Nothing is left on your drive or the road.

Do I need a permit for a wait and load collection?

A skip standing on a public road normally needs a council permit, which is one reason people choose wait and load. The van is there only while it is loaded. Local parking restrictions still apply, so tell us about permit zones or yellow lines.

Who loads the van?

Our team does, as standard. Your trades can keep working, or pass waste out to us while they strip the room. If you would prefer to load the van yourselves while it waits, say so when you book. Either way, someone on site needs to show us what is going.

Is wait and load suitable for rubble and soil?

Yes, but tell us in advance. Rubble, soil and concrete are heavy, so the amount a van can carry is set by weight as much as volume. Bagging it or keeping it in a separate heap makes loading faster. Photos help us plan the load.

How is wait and load priced compared with a skip?

We charge by the volume of waste loaded, and guide prices start at £155 for 1 cubic yard. A skip is hired at a fixed size, so you pay for the whole container. With a van, a part load costs less than a full one, and labour is included.

What if there is more waste than we expected on the day?

That is common on strip-outs. The team will tell you what load size the extra waste takes you to, and you agree the price before it goes on. If it will not all fit, we can arrange to come back for the remainder.
