Hardcore waste removal for rubble, concrete and soil

Hardcore is the heavy end of rubbish removal: bricks, rubble, broken concrete, paving, tiles, stone and soil. It comes from knocked-down walls, dug-out drives, old patios and garden levelling, and it cannot go in a household bin. Our hardcore waste removal collects it from houses, gardens and building sites. The team shovels, barrows and loads it, so you are not left carrying rubble through the house yourself.

Weight is what sets this work apart. A small heap of rubble weighs far more than a van full of furniture, so a load of hardcore is limited by what the vehicle can carry safely and legally, not only by the space it fills. That is why we ask for a photo and a rough description before quoting. If the pile is bigger than one trip allows, we will tell you at the start and price the job on that basis.

Hardcore is rarely the only waste on a job. Timber, plasterboard, packaging and old fittings from the same project can be collected as builders waste clearance, and soil and turf from landscaping often comes with a garden clearance. Keep plasterboard out of the rubble pile, because it should be kept separate from other waste. Clean hardcore that is not mixed with general rubbish is also easier to recycle.

Collection by van is often the answer where a skip will not fit on the drive, or would have to stand on the road with a permit from the council. With wait and load, the van parks up, is loaded and leaves. The two options are compared in our guide to skip hire versus a man and van. For a free quote, send a photo of the pile on WhatsApp to 07935 554 253. Wherever possible we collect the same day or the next.

How our hardcore waste removal works

  1. Photo and description

Send a photo of the pile and say what is in it, such as brick, concrete or soil, and whether it is loose or bagged.

  2. Quote allowing for weight

We estimate volume and weight, then give you a clear price. If it needs more than one trip, we say so at the start.

  3. Barrowed and loaded

The team shovels and barrows the hardcore from where it lies to the van, taking care over paths and floors.

  4. Taken for crushing

The load goes to a licensed facility, where clean hardcore is typically crushed for reuse as aggregate.

Why choose us for hardcore waste removal

We do the shovelling

Rubble is slow, heavy work to move. The team loads all of it, from the back garden if that is where it is.

No skip outside

The van is loaded and leaves, so there is no skip permit to arrange and nothing left outside overnight.

Weight explained first

You are told before loading how the weight of your waste affects the price. No hidden fees.

Licensed waste carrier

Upper tier waste carrier licence CBDU526130, with a waste transfer note provided for your hardcore.

How to get hardcore ready for collection

You do not have to prepare anything, but a few things speed the job up. If you bag rubble, use proper rubble sacks and only half fill them, because a full sack is too heavy to lift safely and tends to split. Stack whole bricks and slabs so they can be carried. Keep the pile free of timber, plastic and plasterboard where you can. Our builders waste disposal guide explains why separating materials matters.

Soil needs a mention of its own. Clean topsoil and subsoil are simple. Soil mixed with rubble, roots, glass or rubbish counts as mixed waste and is harder to recycle. If you suspect the ground is contaminated, for example with oil or with fragments of old cement sheet that could contain asbestos, stop digging and send us a photo before you book. Some materials, such as asbestos, need a specialist contractor.

Hardcore waste removal FAQs

Why do you need to know the weight as well as the size of the pile?

Every van has a legal limit on the weight it can carry. Household rubbish fills the space long before it reaches that limit. Hardcore does the opposite, so a modest heap of rubble can be a full load by weight. Knowing what the material is lets us quote accurately and plan the right number of trips.

Can you collect rubble from a back garden with no side access?

Yes. If the only route is through the house, the rubble is bagged or carried in tubs and taken through by hand. Tell us about the route when you ask for a quote, including steps and the distance to the road, because access is one of the things that affects the price.

Do I need to bag the rubble first?

No. Loose piles are shovelled into barrows or tubs and loaded by the team. If you prefer to bag it as you work, use rubble sacks and fill them about halfway so they can be lifted. Ordinary bin bags tear under the weight of brick and concrete.

Can soil and hardcore go on the same load?

Yes, they can be collected together. Clean soil and clean rubble kept in separate piles are easier to recycle than a mixed heap, so separate them if you have the room. If they are already mixed, send a photo and we will quote for the pile as it is.

Will you take an old concrete shed base or path?

Yes, once it is broken into pieces that can be lifted. If you need it broken out as well, ask us and send a photo showing the size and thickness. Where a shed is still standing on the base, see our shed removal page.

Is van collection better than hiring a skip for rubble?

Each has its place. A skip suits work that produces hardcore over several days and has room on the drive. Collection by van suits a pile that is ready to go, a property with no space for a skip, or a street where one would need a permit. See man and van rubbish clearance for how it works.
