Appliance removal for washing machines, cookers and white goods

Old white goods tend to sit in a kitchen corner, garage or back yard for months because nobody wants to lift them. Appliance removal deals with that. We collect washing machines, cookers, tumble dryers, dishwashers and smaller electricals from homes and businesses. The team carries each one out from where it stands and loads it, so you are not left shifting a dead weight down the hall.

Weight is the awkward part. A washing machine has a heavy block inside to steady the drum, and a range cooker can be a tight fit through a kitchen doorway. Appliances are wheeled on level floors and carried by two people on steps. Anything that cools goes through fridge freezer removal because of the gases inside, and screens go through TV disposal.

Appliances are waste electricals, often shortened to WEEE, and should be recycled separately from general rubbish. Most of a washing machine or cooker is steel, so the bulk of it can be recovered as metal once it has been sorted at a licensed facility. Around 90% of what we collect overall is recycled. You get a waste transfer note and invoice, which matters if you are a landlord or a business.

Kitchen refits and house moves usually leave more than one thing to shift. Old tables, dressers and cupboards can travel on the same load through furniture removal. A garage full of dead appliances and odds and ends is better booked as a garage clearance. Bigger mixed loads are priced by how much room they take in the van, and our guide to rubbish removal costs explains the load sizes.

Before and after: what our appliance removal looks like

Before: a washing machine, microwave and vacuum left outside a garage Before
After: the same driveway clear After

Disconnecting appliances before we collect

Appliances need to be disconnected before the team arrives. For a washing machine or dishwasher that means turning off the water at the isolating valve, unscrewing the fill hose and pulling the waste pipe out of the standpipe or sink trap. Keep a bowl and a towel handy, because there is nearly always some water left in the hoses and the pump. Tape the hoses and flex to the back.

Gas cookers and hobs must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A hard-wired electric cooker or oven should be isolated and disconnected by someone competent to do it, normally an electrician. Plug-in appliances only need unplugging. If you cannot tell how something is connected, send us a photo of the back or the connection point and ask before you book. It saves a wasted visit.

Appliance removal Rossendale FAQs

Do you collect in Rossendale?

Yes. We collect from homes and businesses across Rossendale and the surrounding areas, and we do all the lifting. Message us on WhatsApp, email info@rubbish-removals.com or use the quote form to book.

Do you disconnect washing machines and cookers?

Appliances should be disconnected before we arrive. A washing machine or dishwasher needs the water turning off and the hoses removing. Gas cookers must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and hard-wired electric cookers by an electrician. If you are stuck, send a photo and ask us first.

Do you take appliances that still work?

Yes, working or broken. If an appliance is in good order it may be worth offering to a reuse charity or a neighbour before you pay to have it removed. If nobody wants it, we collect it and it is recycled as a waste electrical item.

Can you collect a washing machine from an upstairs flat or a cellar?

Yes. The team carries appliances down stairs and up cellar steps. Tell us about the stairs, any tight turns and how far the van can park from the door, because access is one of the things that affects the price. A photo of the route helps.

Why is a washing machine so heavy to move?

There is a concrete or cast iron weight inside to stop the drum shaking the machine across the floor on a spin cycle. That is why it is a two-person lift, and why dragging one on your own tends to end with a gouged floor or a chipped door frame.

Can I add a fridge, TV or other items to the same collection?

Yes. Mixed loads are normal. Fridges and freezers are treated separately because of the refrigerant gases, which our guide on disposing of a fridge freezer explains. Several large household items together are usually booked as a bulky waste collection.

What happens to my old appliance after you collect it?

It goes to a licensed facility and is handled as a waste electrical item, separate from general rubbish. The steel, copper and other metals are recovered and the remaining materials sorted. Your waste transfer note shows that it was passed to a licensed carrier.
