Bulky waste collection from inside your property

Bulky waste is anything too big or heavy for a wheelie bin: beds, wardrobes, sofas, tables, cookers, exercise machines and the like. Our bulky waste collection removes these items from the room they are in. The team carries them down the stairs, through the door and onto the van, so you do not need help, a trolley or a big enough car.

Many councils offer their own bulky waste service, and it is worth checking what yours provides. These services commonly ask for items to be left outside, limit how many you can book and may involve a wait for a slot. A private collection suits people who cannot move the items themselves, have more than a few, or need them gone before a delivery, a move or a tenancy handover.

Different items are treated in different ways once they leave you. Upholstered seating may contain persistent organic pollutants and has to be kept apart from other waste, which is one reason sofa removal has its own page. Beds usually mean a frame to take apart and a mattress collection as well. Wardrobes, dressers and tables come under furniture removal, and cookers, washing machines and dryers under appliance removal.

One collection can include any mixture of these. Guide prices are set by load size, so several items booked together usually make better use of a visit than one at a time. Our article on how to dispose of a mattress sets out the other routes open to you for one of the most common bulky items, including council services and retailer take-back.

How a bulky waste collection works

  1. List the items

Tell us what is going and which floor it is on. A photo of each item on WhatsApp is the quickest route to a price.

  2. We price the load

Your free quote is based on the combined size of the items, with access and dismantling taken into account.

  3. Carried out by the team

Beds and wardrobes are taken apart if needed, then each item is carried out and loaded. You do not lift anything.

  4. Sorted for recycling

Metal, wood, appliances and mattresses are separated at licensed facilities after collection.

Why use us for bulky waste

Collected from the room

Items do not have to be outside. We bring them down from bedrooms, up from cellars and out of flats.

Mixed items, one visit

A bed, a fridge and a sofa can leave together, with one price for the whole load.

Stairs and tight turns

Wardrobes on landings and sofas in narrow halls are routine work for a team with over 15 years of experience.

Appliances handled properly

Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gases that need specialist treatment, so they go to facilities licensed to deal with them.

Before and after: what our bulky waste collection looks like

Before: a wardrobe, mattress, armchair and drawers on a driveway Before
After: the same driveway clear After

Stairs, doorways and getting bulky items ready

The awkward part of bulky waste is usually the route out, not the item. There is no need to measure anything, but do tell us the floor, whether there is a lift, and about any tight turn on the stairs. If a wardrobe or bed was built in the room, it will probably need taking apart to leave it. We can do that on the day, and it goes quicker if we know in advance.

Some preparation on your side saves time on the day. Empty drawers, wardrobes and cupboards so nothing personal goes with them. Defrost fridges and freezers and mop up the water before we arrive. Disconnect washing machines and dishwashers, and have gas cookers disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Keep everything inside your property or garden until collection day, because items left on the pavement may be treated as fly-tipping.

Bulky waste collection Prestwich FAQs

Where are you in Prestwich?

Our address is 131A Bury New Rd, Prestwich, Manchester M25 9NX. We come to you to collect, so there is no need to visit. Call 0161 985 0524, message us on WhatsApp or use the quote form to book.

What counts as bulky waste?

Generally, any household item too large or heavy for your normal bin. Furniture, beds, mattresses, large appliances, carpets and exercise equipment are typical. If you are unsure about something, send a photo and we will tell you how we would handle it.

Do I have to put bulky items outside for collection?

No. We collect from inside the property, including upstairs rooms and flats. Leave items where they are, clear a path to the door and we will do the carrying. If they are already outside, that is fine too.

Is there a limit on how many bulky items you will take?

There is no set number. The price guide covers loads from 1 to 12 cubic yards, so it can be a single wardrobe or the furniture from several rooms. Tell us everything that is going so we allow enough space on the van.

Can you collect a single item?

Yes. One item is priced at the smallest load size it fits within, and guide prices start at £155. If you have other rubbish waiting to go, adding it to the same visit usually makes better use of the load.

Should I use the council bulky waste service instead?

It can be a good option if you have one or two items, can get them outside yourself and are not in a hurry. Charges, item limits and waiting times vary, so check with your council. We suit jobs where items need carrying out or collecting quickly.

Can you dismantle a bed or wardrobe that will not fit down the stairs?

Taking furniture apart is part of the job where it is needed to get an item out safely. Let us know beforehand, as dismantling is one of the factors that affects the quote. Mention fitted furniture fixed to walls as well.
