What happens to your old mattress
A mattress is bulky, but much of it can be reused once it is taken apart. The steel springs go for scrap metal, and foam, felt and fabric layers can be processed into other products. Timber from divan bases can be chipped. Our loads go to licensed facilities for sorting, and around 90% of what we collect overall is recycled. How much of one mattress is recovered depends on its type and condition.
Keep the mattress dry until we come. A soaked mattress is far heavier, harder to carry and harder to recycle, so the bedroom is the best place for it. Strip the bedding unless you want that taken too, and clear the landing and stairs. Mattresses bend, so they usually go round a tight turn. If the bedroom carpet is going as well, we can lift it as a carpet removal.
