Bin access, rejected bins and waste that has sat
Tell us where the bins are kept and how they reach the road. Back alleys, gated passages, steps and bin stores with keypads all change how we plan the visit. If the bins are behind a locked gate, either leave it open or let us know who can open it. Bins do not need to be put out on the pavement. We collect them from where they stand.
A bin left behind by the council has often been tagged for the wrong contents, such as food in the recycling or rubble in the general waste. We can still collect it, but tell us what is inside, because soil, bricks or tiles make a bin hard to move. Say so too if the waste has sat for a while and bags have split. We pick up spillage around the bins. Emptying is not cleaning, so you may want to rinse them afterwards.
