Sofa removal from inside your home

A sofa is the hardest piece of furniture to get rid of yourself. It will not fit in a car, it takes two people to lift, and it has to come out through the same tight doorway it went in by. Rubbish Removal Adlington collects old sofas and takes that job off your hands. We take it from the room it sits in, carry it out and load it. You do not need to get it to the kerb.

Disposal is stricter than it used to be. Upholstered seating may contain persistent organic pollutants, known as POPs, in the foam and fabric. Sofas and armchairs therefore have to be kept separate from other waste and sent for incineration instead of landfill. Our guide on how to get rid of an old sofa goes through every option, including what to try first if yours is still good enough to pass on.

Getting it out is where experience counts. Corner sofas split into sections, feet can often be unscrewed, and sofa beds are far heavier than they look because of the metal frame inside. In flats, the stairs and landings decide how the job goes. Where a sofa will not go through the door in one piece, we dismantle it in the room and carry it out in parts.

Sofas rarely go alone. If a wardrobe, a sideboard or the bed is going as well, it makes sense to book them together, and our furniture removal and mattress collection pages cover those. A mixed lot of large household items can also be booked as a bulky waste collection. Send a photo of the sofa for a free quote.

We collect across Adlington. To book sofa removal in Adlington, fill in the quote form, message us on WhatsApp or email info@rubbish-removals.com. For everything else we take, see rubbish removal in Adlington.

How our sofa removal works

  1. Send a sofa photo

WhatsApp a picture and tell us which floor it is on, plus any tight stairs or doorways.

  2. Price and day agreed

We quote for free and book a collection, same-day or next-day wherever possible.

  3. Lifted from the room

The team carries the sofa out from where it sits, splitting or dismantling it if the doorway demands.

  4. Taken for proper disposal

It goes to a licensed facility and is kept separate from general waste, as the rules for upholstery require.

Why choose us for sofa removal

No dragging to the kerb

We collect from the living room, an upstairs flat or a conservatory. The lifting is done for you.

Care on the way out

Sofas are angled, stood on end or taken apart so they clear door frames and banisters.

Disposed of correctly

Upholstered seating has its own disposal rules because of POPs. Yours goes to a facility that can handle it.

Licensed waste carrier

Upper tier licence CBDU526130. You have a duty of care to pass waste only to a licensed carrier, and we give you a transfer note.

Before and after: what our sofa removal looks like

Before: two old sofas left on a driveway Before
After: the same driveway clear After

What happens to your old sofa after collection

Upholstered seating is treated differently from other furniture. The foam, fabric and linings may contain persistent organic pollutants, chemicals that were widely used as flame retardants. Waste sofas and armchairs therefore cannot be mixed in with general waste or sent to landfill. They are kept separate and go for incineration, which destroys the chemicals. The same applies to armchairs, recliners and padded footstools.

That is why sofa disposal is not as simple as it once was, and why it matters who takes yours. We are a licensed waste carrier, the sofa goes to a licensed facility, and you get a waste transfer note. If the sofa is still clean and sound, it may be worth offering it for reuse before you book us. Many charities will only accept a sofa that still has its fire safety label attached.

Sofa removal Adlington FAQs

Do you collect in Adlington?

Yes. We collect from homes and businesses across Adlington and the surrounding areas, and we do all the lifting. Message us on WhatsApp, email info@rubbish-removals.com or use the quote form to book.

How much does it cost to have a sofa removed?

It depends on what you have. A sofa stool is £59.99, a single armchair £119.99, a 2 seater £139.99, a 3 seater £144.99, a 3 piece L-shape £349.99 and a 5 piece L-shape £399.99. The minimum collection charge is £125, and sofas with fire safety labels attached get 10% off. See how much rubbish removal costs for bigger loads.

Can you get a sofa out of a flat with no lift?

Yes. Tell us which floor you are on and what the stairs are like, especially any tight turns. The team carries the sofa down, and if it will not make a corner in one piece it is taken apart in the flat first.

My sofa will not fit through the door. What happens?

It came in somehow, so it can go out. Often it is a case of removing the feet or standing the sofa on end. If it was assembled in the room, or the doorway has changed since, we dismantle it there and carry it out in pieces.

Why can a sofa not just go to landfill?

Upholstered seating may contain persistent organic pollutants in its foam and coverings. Because of that, waste sofas have to be kept separate from other rubbish and sent for incineration instead of landfill. It is one reason to be careful about who you hand an old sofa to.

Will you take a sofa that is wet, torn or broken?

Yes. Condition does not matter for disposal. A sofa that has been left outside in the rain is heavier, so tell us if that is the case. If it is in a garden, yard or garage, say where, and send a photo if you can.

Can you take the old carpet at the same visit?

Yes. People often replace the flooring and the sofa at the same time, and both can go in one load. Tell us the room size and whether the carpet is already up. Our carpet removal page explains how that part works.
